BMW Welcome Center “Das Zentrum”
Location: BMW Welcome Center in Greer, SC
Our Part: Wood Trellis / Isetta Cafe
the background
In the BMW Welcome Center “Das Zentrum” the past, present and future of BMW come together in a one-of-a-kind building. Visitors can see the cars, the speed, the innovation–all for free in the only BMW museum in North America. The “Zentrum” is more than just a museum; it’s a meeting and events center, a cafe, a gallery and a history lesson–all wrapped into one ultimate experience. Located next to the only BMW manufacturing plant in the U.S. in Greer, SC, this unique place offers something for everyone. During the first half of 2017, the Welcome Center underwent an extensive redesign and remodeling project. Since the Schroeder’s Trim Works & Cabinets Team already completed several successful cabinetry and woodwork projects for the BMW facility in the past, we were contracted to build an eye catching trellis for the newly designed “Isetta Café” to complement the sleek and modern architecture in the building.
the challenges
Precision, precision and more precision. In an area showcasing “the ultimate driving machine” there is obviously no place for anything less than perfect. The wood beam room dividers and trellis design mirrors a prior installation of Schroeders Trim Works & Cabinets in the BMW Performance Center, however, significantly scaled up, in order to match the extensive area of the Welcome center. Needless to say, the high visibility of the wood feature required exact layout, spacing and immaculate wood finish.
the results
Well, let’s just say that The Schroeder’s Trim Works & Cabinets Team did not have one open item on the much feared Punch List. Knowing that a world class company with the highest quality standards did not find any issues with our workmanship makes us trust that we did meet our customer’s expectations. We truly appreciated the challenge this project posed for us and are proud and grateful to be allowed to contribute to this “one of a kind” building. The BMW Zentrum is open to the public and is free of charge to visitors.
