Hermitage Baptist Church
Location: Hermitage Baptist Church, Camden SC
Our Part: Welcome Center, Reception Desks, Cabinets
Hermitage Baptist Church in Camden, SC was founded in 1920 to reach the mill village surrounding the Hermitage Cotton Mill. The congregation met for four years in borrowed facilities until 1924 when they were able to erect their first sanctuary on property which was donated by the mill. In 2015, the church broke ground on their first new construction in over 50 years. A school, gymnasium, kids playroom and a large kitchen was added in order to better serve their community.
Schroeders Trim Works and Cabinets got the go ahead for the Welcome Center, Trimwork, Cabinets in the school rooms as well as the Reception Desks at a very late stage in the project, since a previous contract for the church cabinetry fell through. When Schroeders started measuring for the woodwork, the drywall was already being installed and painted. The selected cabinetry was not a standard off the shelf project. The welcome center was designed as a circular desk incorporating curved trimwork and paneling. At the time Schroeders started on their part of the project, the church congregation was already very eager to see the fruits of their labor and open their long awaited new construction.
Bob Schroeder and his team spent long work days and long weekends at the cabinet shop and on the jobsite, in order to help make this project happen in a timely manner. Curved Countertops were measured, fabricated and delivered in a record timeframe. The beautifully crafted welcome center serves as a fitting focal point for the well-designed new addition for the Hermitage community.
